| Miguel Monroy’s work dissembles the meaning of objects and systems in daily life through the fields of video, photography and sculpture. He earned his MFA in Art Practice from Stanford University in 2020 and attended the Certification in Photography and New Media in Centro de la Imágen in 2001. His work has been shown in galleries and cultural spaces in Switzerland, Brazil, Spain, United States, and Belgium among others. In 2018, he received the Edwin Anthony and Adalaine Boudreaux Cadogan Scholarship from The San Francisco Foundation. In 2016, he presented Robbery to an art fair in ZonaMACO Sur. In 2012, he published the book Transporte transportado with the support of Fundación-Colección Jumex. Monroy has participated in artistic residencies in Switzerland (2006), Quebec (2012) and Mexico (2012 and 2015). His most recent solo exhibitions are: Puesta en Abismo (2014) in CoLab Projects at Austin Texas, USA, Shadow box (2012) at La Chambre Blanche in Quebec, Canada, Canon (2012) at Museo Experimental El Eco in Mexico City, Deuce (2010) at Alterna y Corriente in Mexico City. Monroy has been teaching workshops and graduate courses of contemporary art at institutions in California, Puebla, Merida, Puebla, and Mexico City. Since 2015 he has been a member of the FONCA´s Sistema Nacional de Creadores. |

Playtime es una muestra que incluye proyectos artísticos que insisten en lo digital como un espacio para formular estrategias en la vida cotidiana, con la participación de diversos artistas nacionales e internacionales.
Este proyecto reflexiona el concepto de normalidad dentro del contexto contemporáneo, para desviar el significante de la cotidianidad ofreciendo guiños a través de piezas, proyectos e iniciativas que abren la discusión sobre nuevas posibilidades de pensar el mundo. Un giro argumental que nos sitúa como personajes en una narrativa por elaborar.
Playtime se basa en la película homónima de Jacques Tati y retoma escenarios y momentos (aeropuerto, oficinas, exposición de inventos, departamentos, restaurantes, supermercado, fiesta y calle) donde se expone la incongruencia y sin sentidos creados por la industrialización y las llamadas comodidades en el mundo contemporáneo.

The collaborative nature of the project also means that any outcome is possible. While Monroy has explored the dynamics that exist in museums and commercial galleries, he has yet to isolate the various dynamics at play within such a small grassroots organization. Additionally, his voice offers one of objectivity, as he is unfamiliar with the role that Co-Lab Projects plays within the greater Austin area arts community. For Monroy the project would be one that illustrates the various cast of characters that define the various communities in a silent interaction with the space as a point of intersection. For Co-Lab Projects this would be an example of the multiple players at hand that make the art ecosystem of Austin function within the microcosm that is the physical project space.

Monroy travaille avec quatre projecteurs vidéo pour puiser littéralement dans l’espace physique de la galerie de la chambre blanche, son personnel et son équipement. La première projection laisse voir l’installation d’un autre projecteur, s’enchaînant avec la présentation d’un troisième, qui, de son côté, ferme la boucle en montrant l’installation du dernier projecteur. Dans ce jeu de poursuite, les images projetées, copies exactes de leur support de projection, entament une composition sophistiquée de renvoi vers soi-même, de mise en abîme et de redoublement d’espace, dans laquelle le spectateur ne peut empêcher son émergence spontanée, en coupant les flux lumineux des projections. Pour Miguel Monroy, engager le public dans une contemplation active et une participation inattendue devient essentiel à l’aboutissement de l’œuvre. La résidence in situ est le résultat de l’échange culturel de longue date entre le CALQ et FONCA (Mexique).

Canada | Fecha:2012-11-29 | Por: MIGUEL PABLO MONROY MELGOZA Canon es el título con el que Miguel Monroy enuncia el ejercicio multidisciplinario que se llevó a cabo en la sala Daniel Mont del Museo Experimental el Eco como parte del programa de exhibiciones de 2012. Este ejercicio consistió en la revisión del funcionamiento del espacio de exhibición como un lugar de acciones que alteran de manera continua el sitio. Para ello, se centró en el proceso de montaje previo a cada muestra, que dio como resultado un patrón de actividades constantes que constituyen el ejercicio de la producción cultural dentro de la institución museística.
