MIRIAM YVONN MARQUEZ BARRAGAN

Miriam Yvonn Márquez Barragán (Tlaxcala, México). She holds a PhD in Romance Languages & Literatures from the University of Cincinnati. The title of her Doctoral Dissertation is “Presence of the Dance in Federico García Lorca’s Theatre”. She obtained her Master’s degree in Mexican Literature from Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), after defending her thesis work “Fantasía y violencia en tres obras de Elena Garro (‘El rey mago’, ‘Los perros’ y ‘Felipe Ángeles’”, which received the cum laude distinction. She has a BA in Latin-American Literature by the Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala where she graduated with honors, holding the best GPA of her class. She also has a Continuing Education Certificate in “Choreographic Creation for Alternative Spaces: Dance and Interdisciplinary Dialogue”, certified by CENART, CONACULTA and the Centro Morelense de las Artes.

She has taught language and literature courses at the University of Cincinnati and at the University of Rhode Island. She also worked as a research assistant at Brown University. Also, she was an instructor for the seminar “Programa de actualización en español para educación básica”, endorsed by Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP).

For three consecutive years (2017-2019), she received the “Romance Languages and Literatures Publication Award”, granted by the Department of Romance Literature and Languages of the University of Cincinnati for the publication of academic and creative works. In 2016, she received the “Taft Graduate Enhancement Award” for research.

She has also worked as a journalist, columnist, and cultural promoter. She has published literary reviews and essays, short stories, and scholar articles both in Mexico and the United States.

In 2021, he received the “Beatriz Espejo” short story award granted by the Instituto Tlaxcalteca de Cultura and the Secretary of Culture. She is currently the coordinator of Spanish and of the Center for the Learning of Academic Writing and Critical Thinking (CAEAPC) of the UDLAP.

Since 2021 she is Associate Professor in the Academic Department of Letters and Humanities at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla.

Member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) Candidate.
