Fundación Universidad de las Américas, Puebla (UDLAP), respectful of the fundamental right of privacy of all persons, and observant of Mexican law, specifically of Ley Federal de Protección de Datos Personales en Posesión de Particulares (Mexico Data Protection Law), discloses this Privacy Notice.
UDLAP, when dealing with students, employees, suppliers and third parties, uses diverse personal data to fulfill its obligations and protect its rights.
Objectives, Third Party Handling and Personal Data Transfers
UDLAP has as its social objective to impart, promote and develop higher education, scientific research and cultural dissemination in and outside Mexico. UDLAP collects personal data, some sensitive in nature, for its operation, duties, protection of its rights and, in general, to provide educational, cultural, athletic, recreational and other services for the university community and, on occasion, for visitors, suppliers and third parties. Collecting and processing personal data by UDLAP follows the Ley Federal de Protección de Datos Personales en Posesión de Particulares (Federal Law for the Protection of Personal Data by Particulars) and Política de Protección de Datos Personales (Policy for the Protection of Personal Data).
When you give UDLAP personal information through any means, you confirm that you agree with the terms of this Privacy Notice and Policy for the Protection of Personal Data. In case you do not agree with the terms of our Privacy Notice, or with our Policy for the Protection of Personal Data, we advice you not to provide any personal data. If you decide not to give UDLAP your personal data, you accept the possibility of not having access to installations, activities or other services at UDLAP. UDLAP, in order to reach its objectives and offer its services, can:
- Share your personal data with third party institutions that: have a contract for data processing, carry out certifications and accreditations, conduct socio-economic studies when applying for scholarships or student aid, help UDLAP fulfill its obligations and protect its rights, and offer any kind of UDLAP services.
- Transfer your personal data to other persons including, but not limited to, institutions and universities (i.e. for study abroad); in this case only personal data essential for the activity or specific service provided by these persons will be released.
Third parties receiving data for handling, or those persons to which data are transferred, will only receive essential data required for the job.
Consistent with the transparency established in Código de Ética de la UDLAP (UDLAP Code of Ethics), student grades and faculty qualifications are considered to be public within the university community, but they cannot be disclosed to a third party, with the exception of those established in this Privacy Notice. In the same way, data such as name, address, phone number, email address and other contact data can be used by UDLAP so you may receive information about our services, cultural, sport and academic events, projects, raffles and others.
Video, Audio and Photography
UDLAP records audio and video and takes pictures of events such as classes, conferences, and sports, cultural, recreation and publicity events, among others. If you enter the UDLAP campus you accept that you may be taped or photographed and agree that UDLAP can use, publish or air this material for courses, classes and other activities, according with paragraphs 21 and 23 of the Intellectual Property Policy of UDLAP.
Security Measures
To protect personal data received by UDLAP, the university has established security measures of administrative, technical and physical nature--the most appropriate according to data type and the handling they will receive.
Means to exert Access, Rectification, Cancellation and Opposition (ARCO) Rights
If you want to exert ARCO rights regarding your data at UDLAP you may do so by submitting an application at the Personal Data Area in the Legal Department, with address in Ex-Hacienda Santa Catarina Mártir S/N, San Andrés Cholula, Puebla C:P: 72810, México; or, by electronic means at datospersonales@udlap.mx The Legal Department is in charge of receiving and processing applications of individuals regarding their personal data in UDLAP’s possession.
ARCO applications that you submit should (1) have your complete name (2) your current ID documents or, in their case, that of your legally appointed representative (3) address or UDLAP email to receive an answer to your application (4) describe in a clear and concise way the data you request, and (5) provide any other data or document that will help to locate the data requested.
UDLAP will have 20 working days to respond after the date of your application. When the application is applicable, it will proceed in 15 working days following the date of notification. These deadlines can be extended, only once and for the same period of time, when circumstances warrant it. Release of information will take place contingent to identification of the applicant or his/her legal representative.
If you want to revoke your consent to UDLAP for handling your personal data, you should inform the university in writing, through the Personal Data Area.

Privacy Notice Changes
UDLAP reserves the right to modify its Policy for the Protection of Personal Data and/or this Privacy Notice. In case the Privacy Notice is changed, UDLAP will announce it through its web site (www.udlap.mx). We advise you to check this site periodically so you can remain informed of any modifications. Every substantial change to this policy will be published in the institutional website thirty calendar days before its implementation, unless such change is derived from legal reforms or a warrant.
