CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

The program of Clinical Biochemistry has as its main objective to give you a solid preparation in clinical laboratories, so you can be part of health teams that carry out diagnoses and treat diseases with diligence. You will also be prepared to solve real biomedical problems within a research group, in industry and in a clinical laboratory. Additionally, you will master techniques and methods to obtain and analyze information when doing research, as well as in diagnosing illnesses.

 

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE OBJECTIVES

As a professional in Clinical Biochemistry, you will identify and classify toxic substances to which living organisms are exposed to in the environment. You will work in research groups to find solutions to real biomedical problems. You will master molecular diagnostic techniques and methods in clinical and forensic areas. Additionally, you will use advanced lab tests to interpret, analyze and deduce solutions regarding different pathologies.

 

Specific objective

Besides expanding you abilities at enrolment, the Clinical Biochemistry program aims to:

  • Train you to use modern technologies for clinical diagnoses in the laboratory.

  • Instruct you in areas of clinical diagnostics.

  • Provide you with abilities to participate in health teams at hospitals and in the community.

  • Offer you wide experience in research.

  • Teach you to organize and direct clinical laboratories.

  • Foster in you critical and ethical thinking and social responsibility.

GRADUATE PROFILE

At the end of your studies, having acquired new knowledge and expanded your abilities, you will have:

 

  • Capacity to analyze--within a theoretical, technical and practical framework—areas of clinical, biomedical and industrial diagnostics, as well as basic and applied research.

  • Command of clinical laboratory tests to interpret, analyze, and diagnose diverse pathologies.

  • Dexterity to apply correctly techniques and molecular diagnostic methods in clinical and forensic areas.

  • Ability to classify and identify toxic substances that affect living organisms and that are present in the environment.

  • Competence to use the concepts and processes acquired in different instances of the health system and the knowledge to solve real biomedical problems within a research group and in the clinical lab.

  • Understanding of the functions of cutting edge instruments useful in diagnosing diseases.
