CREATION AND CULTURE THEORY
Its goal is to prepare the PhD students with the latest methodological concepts for analyzing the culture, through a wide overview of the problems related with its production and dissemination, all of it in a rich discussions environment were doctoral research activities may be done.
This program is based in a wide horizon of research and critical analysis with a multidisciplinary focus, unique in Mexico. The program responds to the diversity and variety involved in the cultural production of our actual world. Its structure is flexible and allows the integration of more recent cultural expressions and events
PhD DEGREE PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Develop research related with all cultural productions (from mediatic and digital to the traditional artistic disciplines) with a critical and theoretical approach.
Specific objective
The program will provide students with knowledge and skills in the following areas, depending on their academic background:
- For creators, critical and methodological foundations for their continuing creative work.
- For those interested in activities related with management of cultural productions, knowledge and strategic planning for applying it their working environment such as in museums, scenarios, galleries, or for essays, cultural journalism or writing of critics.
- For professors and researchers of higher education, : Approaches, methods and actualized techniques for teaching , doing research and analyzing the modern and contemporary cultural and artistic productions.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The PhD program in Creation and Culture Theories is intended especially to academics and researchers, creators and promoters, with training or working experience in the arts or the humanities. The potential candidate with experience in the following areas of study will be eligible: philosophy, humanities, history, Literature, art history, communication, administration of cultural companies, international relations, architecture, anthropology, musicology, plastic arts, theater and education.
The next characteristics are desirable:
- Interest and curiosity in understanding the social and cultural development of the contemporary society in a national and international level.
- To own a critical, dialogical and propositive attitude to confront the artistic and intellectual production of the past and the present and have the initiative to propose new ways of understanding and transforming it.
- Ability in the original analysis or the critical production of contents generated in the cultural field and presented in the mass media.
- Skills for the analysis and resolution of cultural problems in a multidisciplinary way, both at a local and a global level.
- Proficiency both in English and Spanish.
- Capacity to develop multidisciplinary creation and analysis strategies.
- Ability to use the information technologies and communication techniques as working and learning tools.
GRADUATE PROFILE
The program graduate will be competent in:
- Research and critical analysis of contents generated within the context of culture and spread through mass media.
- Production of cultural contents and their distribution by the tools that media provide, as well as in the cultural and academic spaces thought for it.
- The constant generation of documents, works and mediated contents of constructive critical order, always with a questioning sense of reality, with consciousness of the necessity of ways, channels and means to transform it.
- Handling up to date theoretical knowledge to boost the management of spaces in which their ideas are created and distributed as well as those of the artists working with him/her.
