OBJECTIVES OF THE GRADUATE PROGRAM
To train outstanding scholars in the food science area with a firm social commitment, who are able to carry out basic and/or applied research, to work in education and knowledge dissemination, and capable of developing new technologies to obtain safe, nutritive, and stable foodstuffs. Professionals who can generate and implement solutions for the food industry; acquire and use quality and updated know-how; analyze, synthesize, and use information; be able to communicate efficiently with professionals of other areas; and to innovate successfully in a plural and globalized world.
APPLICANT PROFILE
Licenciatura or equivalent in areas related to the graduate study program (science, engineering, food technology, chemical-biological sciences, agricultural sciences, or similar areas). Take a general knowledge and an English language exam and approve both with top grades.
GRADUATE PROFILE
At the end of his/her studies, a graduate of this program will have:
Knowledge
- All the fundamentals of food conservation to research, design, and develop stable and quality foodstuffs.
- Techniques to analyze the microbiologic, bromatologic, sensorial, and physical and chemical properties of food; and to apply such techniques to investigate and develop food products and processes.
- Design and implementation of basic and/or applied research projects to create new knowledge in food science, develop new food products, adapt or create technologies to process and conserve food, and to propose solutions for problems in the food industry.
- Synthesis of research results in well-written reports in different formats (posters, oral presentations, research notes, research articles, project reports, etc.)
Skills
- Identify, formulate, and solve problems to handle, transform and distribute foodstuffs.
- Develop new technologies, as well as adapt and use technology to process food, according to the needs of Mexico and other Latin American countries.
- Data analysis, and interpretation of research results in food science.
- Critical and reflexive thinking.
- Develop original and independent research projects in food science.
- Draw conclusions and make decisions based on research results.
- Create and synthesize knowledge in food science.
- Publicize findings effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Train and lead researchers and research teams.

- Licenciatura or equivalent in the areas of science, engineering, food technology, chemical-biological sciences, agricultural sciences, or similar areas.

- Meet the established admissions requirements.
