Carlos A. Ibarra holds degrees in Economics from the University of Notre Dame (Ph. D.), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (M. Sc.) and Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (B. Sc.).

His research interests lie in the field of macroeconomics and development. Currently he studies the relationship between income distribution, capital accumulation and economic growth in Mexico. His recent work has been published by the Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, World Development, International Review of Applied Economics, Latin American Economic Review y Cambridge Journal of Economics.

He is a member of Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI), level II, and has been a consultant for ECLAC, IDRC and WIDER.

Since 1997 he has been a full-time professor in the Department of Economics of the School of Business and Economics at Universidad de las Américas Puebla. Currently, he is the Department´s Academic Director.
