Downloadable Brochure

The academic program that leads to the degree in Biomedical Engineering guides, nurtures and prepares students to become graduates who, within five years after graduation, achieve the following objectives:

PEO # 1: Career

Work as professionals in diverse organizations or as entrepreneurs, able to participate in innovation, research, and development on biomedical systems.

PEO #2: Practice

Practice Biomedical Engineering in the design and implementation of biomedical systems, demonstrating technical expertise, collaborating, and communicating effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.

PEO #3: Continuous Learning

Continually expand their skill-set and knowledge, through independent study or high-level training such as professional certifications, graduate degrees or web seminars.

PEO #4: Leadership & Professional Engagement

Achieve and maintain positions of influence in the community of Biomedical Engineering professionals, showing organizational engagement, social responsibility and ethics.

As a graduate from the Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering you will be able to analyze, design, evaluate, innovate, and implement biomedical systems, applying engineering and health theories and methodologies – bioinstrumentation, biomechanics, biomaterials, medical imaging, physiological systems, clinical engineering, rehabilitation and tissue engineering – to propose solutions to medical problems, in collaboration with doctors, nurses, dentists, nutritionists, and technicians, thus responding to the challenges of globalization.

Once you have finished your study program, you will have a bachelor´s degree in addition to a licenciatura degree. Therefore, your studies will be recognized worldwide.

In addition to enhancing your entry skills, at the Licenciatura in Biomedical Engineering we propose to:

  • Teach you to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems related to health, using the best practices and technological advances.
  • Train you to design systems, components, or processes for the health sector, considering security, economic factors, and sustainability.
  • Encourage you to undertake, manage, and innovate in health businesses, projects, and products.
  • Develop in you solid bases to understand the different areas of biomedical engineering, using its technological advances.
  • Train you to master the use of medical equipment.
  • Instruct you in using computer tools to develop applications for biomedical engineering.
  • Make you master the technologies to solve medical engineering problems.
  • Let you recognize the importance of continuous and self-directed learning for your professional development.
  • Wants to find solutions in the health sector using information technologies.
  • Has initiative to propose creative solutions for the hospital sector.
  • Willing to work for the greater good and to be successful.
  • Determined to achieve goals through learning.

Biomedical Engineering graduates will have developed the following skills:

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science and mathematics.
  2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences (oral & written).
  4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks and meet objectives.
  6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
