Candy Yuriria Ramírez Zavaleta has a Bachelor in Biochemistry, graduated from Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos, she has a Master degree and Doctorate in Molecular Biology from Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (IPICYT). She also has Postdoctoral studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is member of the Sistema Nacional de Invertigadores Nivel 1. She has carried out several research stays in Mexico and the United States, including the Centro de Investigación Sobre Enfermedades Infecciosas of the Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública, in Cuernavaca; the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Wayne State University, in Detroit; the División de Biología Molecular at the IPICYT, in San Luis Potosí; the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of California-San Francisco, and the Department of Biomolecular Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During these years, she has studied molecular mechanisms of virulence in opportunistic yeasts, and the development and differentiation of pathogenic microorganisms and animal cells. She has participated in 14 national and international conferences, where her research work has obtained awards in the form of poster and oral presentation. She has 17 publications in high-impact indexed international journals (Q1 quartile), including original research articles, scientific reviews and book chapters. In 2018, she joined as Professor of the Biotechnology Engineering Program at the Universidad Politécnica de Tlaxcala (UPTx). At the beginning of 2024, she joined as a Full-Time Professor of the Department of Chemical Biological Sciences at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP) where she teaches the subjects of Microbiology and the Microbiology and Bacteriology and Mycology Laboratories. Her research focus on the study of the molecular evolution of pathogens and new technologies for their identification at the molecular level.
