Yalicel Gabeira Londres holds a Ph.D. in History and Critical Theory of Art, a Master’s degree in Art Studies from Universidad Iberoamericana de México and a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from Universidad de la Habana, Cuba.

She has participated in several research stays such as the International Program for Young Researchers at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) in South Korea in 2018. She was a fellow of the Ars TEORética Foundation to produce a critical text on the uses of archival documentary sources in the artistic practices of the Caribbean, in 2018-2019, and of the Department of Modern Painting at the Thyssen- Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, 2010-2011.

Between 2009 and 2016 she worked at Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam in Cuba, where she managed temporary exhibitions and the curatorial and museography processes of the Eleventh Havana Biennial "Artistic Practices and Social Imaginaries (2012) and the Twelfth Havana Biennial "Between Idea and Experience" (2015). She has participated in several stays and courses such as: "Núcleo. Laboratorio de Estudios Curatoriales, coordinated by Cátedra Extraordinaria Francisco Toledo de Arte y Comunidad de la Facultad de Artes y Diseño de la UNAM, 2022, "Retos actuales de la curaduría" as part of the project Historia de las exposiciones en México by Instituto de Liderazgo en Museos A. C in 2019, the Visiting Curator Program of the seventh edition of the Glasgow International Art Festival, presented in 2016 and the course Temporary exhibitions: a management model organized by Subdirección general de promoción de las Bellas Artes, Ministerio de Educación Cultura y Deporte de España in 2012.

She has taught in the careers of Art and Heritage at Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México and Communication and Management of Culture and the Arts at Universidad de la Comunicación in Mexico City. At the same time, she has collaborated with the Latin American and Caribbean Art courses at Universidad Iberoamericana de México. She worked as a research assistant for the projects “La mirada, los afectos y las agencias en los estudios de arte latinoamericano y caribeño. Mixturas disciplinares para la deconstrucción de paradigmas y renovaciones epistémicas”, “Potencialidades de los anacronismos en el arte latinoamericano y caribeño: conexiones críticas entre pasados y presentes” y “Encuentros y desencuentros en el arte de América Latina y el Caribe” coordinated by the Art Department of Universidad Iberoamericana de México. Her works have been presented in different publications and national and international congresses.

In her classes, she seeks to stimulate in students the formation of a personal view and opinion about the processes of art and its links with different areas of knowledge. She understands teaching as a collective learning practice that affects sensitivity and human development.

Since 2023 she has been a full-time professor in the Academic Department of Letras, Humanidades e Historia del Arte en la Escuela de Artes y Humanidades de la Universidad de las Américas, Puebla.

Areas of interest: contemporary art practices, rewriting art history, curatorial studies, biennialization, the art-archive relationship, exhibition history and material culture.
