INTEGRAL FORMATION AND MULTICULTURAL ENVIRONMENT
star selection to participate in the Kili Bowl. At the end of the season, UDLAP hosted the Football Stars Bowl of CONADEIP, where 19 Aztecas were part of the National Team directed by our head coach, defeating the American combined team. At the beginning of 2012, three Aztecas were selected to be part of the international team in the second edition of the Under-19 Football´s International Bowl; UDLAP was the Mexican university with more members on the international team.
The Tae Kwon Do team won 15 medals in the CONADEIP national championship, three first places, five second places and seven third places. The male team was recognized as champion in the combat modality and with this victory they placed themselves as the second best team of this sport in both modalities.
Thanks to the achievements of our representative sports teams, UDLAP was recognized as a leader institution of the east zone in the Postcongreso de la Comisión Nacional Deportiva Estudiantil de Instituciones Privadas (“Post-conference of the National Student Sport Committee of Private Institutions”). Likewise, Eric Fisher received acknowledgment as best coach of the year of the premier football league of CONADEIP for his performance in leading the Aztecas team.
In UDLAP we consider that sports, besides being a healthy component and an expression of sociability, requires discipline and commitment, two factors that interact in the formation process. Academic performance gets priority over sports performance, without excluding the fact that integration of both allows our students to have a broader view, be more productive, boost their strengths and adapt themselves to a changing and competitive environment such as the one we live in nowadays. Therefore our sports program is a reference and our athletes not only stand out in their disciplines but also in the academic field.
CULTURE, AZTECAS
We at the institution give equal importance to cultural and sports activities. For this reason, since 2010 we have formed the UDLAPs cultural representation teams. During this period we strengthen the programming of events for cultural representation teams with more than 100 shows in institutional stages in and outside the university campus.
In the Choir Gathering Orfeo Catalá by the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City, the participation of the UDLAP choir was considered by the specialized critics as one of the best in the presentation. The play La mujer de antes was also exhibited for the first time in the National Arts Center; it was integrated by students of the Bachelors Degree in Theater, and directed by faculty of the Art Section.
The third cultural season was successfully carried out in the Instituto Mexicano de Tecnología del Agua [IMTA] (“Mexican Institute of Water Technology”) thus reinforcing collaboration with the state and consolidating UDLAP presence within the Republic.
As part of our connection with the communities of Puebla and Cholula, our cultural representation teams participated in events such as Equinoccio de Primavera Cholula 2011, Festival Internacional Palafoxiano, Festival Vaniloquio 2011 and Cameralia 2011, which were carried out in the facilities of our UDLAP Chapel of Arts.
The UDLAP Musical Theater season opened with the play AIDA, the musical by Elton John and Tim Rice. For this production copyrights were acquired from Music Theatre International and after a transparent process of open auditions in the college community, more than 80 students of several academic disciplines participated; an integrated actors ensemble, dance group, musicians, wardrobe, lighting, stage design and direction, among others.
