BEFORE YOU GO to the airport, MAKE SURE that:
- You have your passport
- You DO NOT bring travelers’ checks **
- You only bring a small amount of cash
- You bring only the luggage you can carry on your own (two pieces is recommended)
**The easiest form of currency to carry is an ATM or DEBIT CARD. There are so many ATM machines at the airport and four cajeros (ATMs) on campus and you will always get the best current exchange rate by using them.
There are two terminals in this airport: TERMINAL1 and TERMINAL 2. Be aware of which one your airplane will be landing.
BEFORE you get off the plane make sure you have the matching sticker (*it is always put on the envelope that holds your tickets) that corresponds to your luggage. You will have one for each piece of checked luggage and it is used to identify it as your own.) Know your flight # so that you know which “Reclamo de Equipaje” (Baggage Claim) Area to go to in order to pick up your luggage.
NEXT - follow the signs for “Salida” (Exit) when you get off your flight and which will lead you to pass by other signs saying “Inmigración” (Immigration). Have your passport and the “Forma Migratoria Para Turista, Transmigrante” (Migratory Form for Foreign Tourist, Transmigrant) ready upon passing through Immigration. *This form will be given to you at the end of your flight before you land. Please fill out it out on the plane so that you can expedite the process. (*A normal student visa is not necessary since you will only be in the country for 6 weeks. We recommend that you put 60 DAYS as your length of stay even though the Summer Immersion Program is shorter and make sure that you check the box on this form saying “Turista/Tourist”).
When you go through Immigration, they will tear this form and stamp it as well as your passport. Make sure that you keep the torn form until you leave Mexico. Passing through immigration, they might ask you a few questions like where you are going, where you will be living, with whom you are traveling and how long your visit will be. This is very simple. After passing through Immigration follow another set of signs that say Salida, which will lead you to “Reclamo de Equipaje.” After picking up your luggage there, you will pass through “Aduanas” (Customs).
There you will need your Customs Declaration Form that you also filled out on the plane. Mexico has a completely unbiased system in its Customs Department. Every person passing through it has to push a button that will light up green or red. If yours lights up red they will inspect your bags and possibly ask you a few questions about their contents. (*If you are coming as part of a group with your own university or another organization please wait for the entire group before proceeding.)
SHUTTLE TO PUEBLA - You will go from the airport to the UDLAP campus in a camión or bus. In terminal 1 the bus stop is upstairs behind the food court. In terminal 2 the bus stop is on the ground level. In both terminals the bus company that handles this itinerary is ESTRELLA ROJA http://www.estrellaroja.com.mx/expreso-aeropuerto.php. All students have to provide the cost of this bus ticket. There area two bus stations in Puebla. We do recommend you to take the bus to the one called 4 PONIENTE. The price for a one-way ticket will be approximately $15 USD. Buses leave every hour on the half hour. The duration of the bus ride from Mexico City to Puebla is between 1 ½ – 3 hours depending on traffic. When you reach Puebla the bus station where you will arrive at is called 4 Poniente. Take a taxi to the UDLAP. The cost for that would be around 5 US dollar. You should arrive at “Estacionamiento #3” or Parking Area #3 in the university which is behind the “Edificio de Humanidades a.k.a. HU” or the Humanities Building. CILC´s office is located on the 3rd flour. Our office is closed from 5 PM, that why is so important you to inform us your personal and flight information.
