Jesús Mario Lozano Alamilla holds a Master of Arts in Performance Studies from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and a Doctorate in Philosophy from the European Graduate School.

Currently, he is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte in the film direction area. He has been a FONCA Jóvenes creadores scholarship recipient in the area of film script and has obtained various awards and support for film production from FOPROCINE, PROMOCINE, CONARTE, EFICINE, IMCINE, and FONECA.

His opera prima as a feature film director and writer is “Asi´” (“Just like that”). It was released during the Critic’s Week at the internationally prestigious 62 Mostra Internazionale d Arte Cinematografica de Venezia and later screened in different National and International festivals, such as BFI London Film Festival, Goteborg Film Festival, and Morelia Film Festival, among others. It had a theatrical release in 2006 and has been exhibited in several windows of distribution in the United States and Latin America.

Lozano’s second feature film is “Mas alla de mi´” (“Beyond myself”), and it premiered at the official selection of the renowned Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara in 2008 and exhibited in different windows of distribution in different countries of Latin America and the USA.

His third feature film is “Ventanas al mar” (“Windows to the Sea”), and it premiered at the official selection of the Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara in 2012. The film was also presented at several festivals worldwide, such as Shanghai International Film Festival, Chicago Latino Festival, and Santo Domingo Global Festival, among others, and its theatrical commercial release in Mexico was at the end of 2013 and 2014. It has been exhibited in diverse distribution windows such as Apple I Tunes, Claro Video, Fox channels, and Cinelatino, among many others.

His feature documentary “La sangre barbara” (“Barbarian Blood”) premiered at the Official Selection of the Monterrey International Film Festival, where it won three important prizes: the Cine Premiere prize, Best Documentary Nuevo Leon, and the Rogelio Gonzalez award. The documentary also received “honorable mentions” from the jury at the Festival Iberoamericano de la Memoria and FICVI 2015. It had a theatrical release in Mexico in 2014.

"Fuego Adentro," his most recent feature film as screenwriter and director, premiered at the official selection of the Morelia Film Festival 2020. It was also presented in the official selection of the Ibero-American Festival of Trieste, Italy, where it won the award for "best direction," as well as in the official selection of the Festival of Mérida and Yucatán, where it won the award for "Best Mexican film" and at the festival of Nueva Delhi in India among others. Hugo Catalán, Armando Espitia, and Luisa Pardo are part of the cast. This film was produced with the support of the FOPROCINE from the Mexican Film Institute.

In 1999, his short film “El Banquete. Una Procesiomn” (“The Banquet. A Procession”) received the first prize at the Festival de Video y Artes Electro´nicas (CONACULTA). That same year his short film “Elogio del Triángulo” (“Praise of the triangle”) won an honorable mention from the jury in the V Festival de Video Ero´tico at the Cineteca Nacional. In 2002 he directed the short film “Blancas Mariposas” (“White Butterflies”) that was commercially distributed in Mexican cinemas as part of the feature film “Accion en movimiento”. In 2004 his short film “A la Salida” (“At the Exit”) was released at the official selection of the International Film Festival Expresion en Corto 2005 in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Lozano has written and directed diverse performances and theater plays, some of which have been presented in Mexico, the USA, Cuba, and the United Kingdom. In 1995 he was invited as a director at the State Company of Theater in Syzran, Russia, where he resided for several months.

Jesús Mario Lozano is the Head of the Theater program and professor.
