Dr. José Daniel Lozada Ramírez is a scientist and educator, born in Mexico City in 1974. He has a solid academic background in the field of Biotechnology and Biochemistry. He obtained his Bachelors degree in Pharmaceutical and Biological Chemistry with a specialization in Biotechnology from the University of the Americas Puebla in 1998, graduating with Honors. Later, he earned a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from the same institution in 2002, graduating with distinction Cum Laude. He continued his studies at the University of Murcia (Spain) with a scholarship granted by the National Council of Science and Technology. There, he completed his Ph.D. in Fundamental Biology with a focus on Biochemistry and Enzymatic Biotechnology in 2006, receiving the distinction "Sobresaliente Cum Laude". He has experience in the industrial sector, having worked for the Warner Lambert – Chiclet’s Adams Group in 1999. Since the beginning of his professional career, Dr. Lozada has been an active member of the academic community. He has held various roles at the University of the Americas Puebla, where he currently serves as the Dean of the School of Sciences since 2015. Prior to this position, he was the Academic Director of the Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences from 2012 to 2015. Since 2007, he has been a Full-Time Professor at UDLAP, teaching a variety of courses related to Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Lozada has excelled in both teaching and research. He has supervised numerous doctoral, masters, and undergraduate theses and has participated in funded research projects. His scientific contributions are reflected in publications in international indexed journals, addressing topics related to the extraction and stabilization of plant-derived antioxidants, as well as the application of enzymatic systems. Currently, his research is focused on the use of bioactive principles for biomedical purposes, particularly for cancer and chronic and neurodegenerative diseases. His academic excellence has been recognized over the years. He has been awarded the repatriation scholarship by the National Council of Science and Technology (2007) and the Erasmus+ ICM Staff Mobility scholarship (2017) to receive training at the University of Edinburgh (Scotland). He has participated in research projects such as "Designing the doctoral degrees for maximum industrial and economic impact" between UDLAP and the University of Bristol, funded by the British Council (2017-2018); "Development of new bioregulatory, biostimulant, fertilizer, and anti-pathogen products for the agricultural sector and new products for the pigment sector" (2016); "Cloning, characterization, and application of enzymes in biofuel synthesis: biocatalysis using free and immobilized enzymes on nanostructured supports" (2011-2014); "Distribution of Jatropha curcas (pine nut), Ricinus communis L. (castor bean), and Thevetia peruviana (yellow oleander) populations in Puebla and their use for biodiesel production" (2010-2012); the latter projects were funded by the National Council of Science and Technology. Furthermore, he is currently a member of the National System of Researchers (Level I), reflecting his commitment to research excellence. Dr. José Daniel Lozada Ramírez is a highly skilled and dedicated professional whose commitment to teaching, research, and academic administration positions him as a prominent figure in the field of Biotechnology and Biochemistry.
