RVOE Autorizado: SEP-SES/21/119/01/2614/2018

As an Anesthesiology graduate student, you will obtain theoretical and practical knowledge which will add to your integral development to contribute to the prevention and preservation of health. We will develop your skills in clinical practice and promote ethical and human values to continue working with diligence and guide you towards collaborative work that will help you act with social responsibility and promote your critical and creative thinking, being able to learn permanently. Our program consists of three years in one of the most prestigious hospitals in the area. Each one of the activities carried out during your graduate studies will help you successfully join the labor market.

To train doctors who are Specialists in Anesthesiology who can develop and apply an anesthesiology plan on patients who will undergo surgery, so they will be in a state or unconsciousness and numbness to pain by using the appropriate techniques and procedures, selecting the drugs to be administered through different means, establishing surgical risks, relieving pain and avoiding complications, thus providing an integral, ethical and human service.

Applicants to the Specialty in Anesthesiology must meet the following requirements:

  • Medical Surgeon Diploma or its equivalent, or Licenciatura Professional Exam Act.
  • Valid professional license.
  • Official certificate or approval of the Interinstitutional Commission for the Training of Health Human Resources (Comisión Interinstitucional para la Formación de Recursos Humanos en Salud - CIFRHS) which is obtained when they present the National Exam for Medical Residency Candidates (Examen Nacional para Aspirantes a Residencias Médicas - ENARM).
  • Interview with the selection committee, which includes a representative from UDLAP’s Department of Health Sciences assigned by the Academic Director, the Education Director or Head of Teaching at the Ángeles Puebla Hospital (HAP), the main professor of the medical specialty, adjunct professors and faculty of the hospital medical specialty. This interview is 40% of the admission score.
  • Take the anesthesiology placement exam given by HAP. This exam represents 60% of the admission score.
  • Be respectful of all life.
  • Be healthy both physically and mentally.
  • Values and principles regarding ethics and bioethics.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to manage stress.
  • Full-time student.

The UDLAP anesthesiology specialist will:

  • Understand the physical, structural, organizational, compartmentalization, and molecular complexity phenomena by interpreting the theories and foundations of anesthesiologic agents and associated drugs to apply basic science in anesthesiology.
  • Master the theoretical, methodological and practical foundations of the core specialties of general surgery, pediatrics, OB/GYN, maternal-fetal medicine and internal medicine by analyzing individual clinical cases to realize adequate anesthesiology proposals.
  • Interpret physiological processes of ventilation and respiration by analyzing clinical cases to interpret the pathophysiology of gas exchange and pulmonary diseases applied to anesthesiology.
  • Apply the adequate anesthesiology technique during different anesthesiology periods, through a detailed selection of the surgical procedure to avoid complications and promote the health of individuals.
  • Analyze the physiological anatomical characteristics of pain through a diagnostic methodology to achieve adequate pain control.
  • Select the ideal technique in general medicine and specialties by analyzing physiological variables, as well as clinical and laboratory exams to establish an integral anesthesiologic handling of different age groups.
  • Establish a permeable airway by identifying its clinical signals to guarantee adequate ventilation and oxygenation.
  • Design an anesthesiology plan in the pre-operative period  through a physiological anatomical analysis in order to apply trans and post-surgical anesthesiology strategies.
  • Handle pre, trans and post-surgery complications in all medical specialties by applying anesthesiology techniques and procedures to guarantee the patient’s health.
  • Evaluate the patient’s health by monitoring the different anesthesiology periods to anticipate and manage complications.
  • Consider a therapeutic plan through the disease’s physiopathology to control pain in medical procedures.
  • Evaluate the inherent risks of using anesthesia through an integral analysis of the patient’s clinical file to prevent complications that put their wellbeing at risk.
  • Establish an individual anesthesia plan using complex techniques to recommend anesthesia in different surgeries.
  • Develop relevant research work in anesthesiology by using the scientific method to create knowledge in medical science.
  • Apply teaching-learning evaluation methodologies by practicing different clinical scenarios, to contribute to constant training of health personnel.
  • Establish clinical aptitudes in different medical areas by using clinical and research tools, as well as critical sense to identify the optimal anesthesia technique to adapt to the medical area.
  • Apply legal and ethical regulations by evaluating ethical codes and principles to treat a patient with dignity and guarantee an integral and multidisciplinary approach to a patient’s anesthesia.
  • Review the anesthesiology procedures and techniques using algorithms to avoid inherent risks in the profession and guarantee anesthetic optimization and function.
  • Apply critical judgement and common sense to establish an individualized anesthesia plan, maintaining the principles of physical, mental, emotional, affective and behavior principles of the individuals under their care.
  • Act with ethics and responsibility by identifying individual rights to guarantee the patient’s integrity.
  • Understand the limits of their professional competence by applying the bioethical code and self-criticism to join multidisciplinary work teams that benefit the patient.
  • Show a positive and proactive attitude through exemplary behavior to responsibly join multidisciplinary work teams with other health professionals.
  • Show conviction to work for a person’s wellbeing in their different expressions, preferences, perceptions and way of thinking through respect and tolerance for all human beings to guarantee patient satisfaction.
