ART HISTORY AND CURATORSHIP

As a professional in Art History and Curatorship, you will respond to cultural, artistic, and social requirements in any field where culture is a factor, such as auction houses, art markets, cultural tourism, museums and galleries, national and international cultural institutions, publishing houses, research and teaching centers, to name a few.  Additionally, you will carry out multidisciplinary work in areas such as sociology, anthropology, tourism, community projects, design projects, urbanism projects, and media, among others.  Also, you will develop research and intervention skills in different aspects of this career through conservation projects and national and international diffusion of art.

 

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE OBJECTIVES

As a professional in Art History and Curatorship, you will be able to understand art processes as well as their expansion in museums and commerce.  You will also develop a receptive and critical discernment to identify the diversity and problems of art; and you will be able to work from multiple vantage points to acquire experience and objectivity in the art scene.

Specific objective

In your studies in Art History and Curatorship, you will be able to:

  • Master the foundations, guidelines and discourses of Art History in its historical and theoretical aspects, as well as different problems associated with curatorship.

  • Develop professionally in art areas such as markets, curatorship and collecting.

  • Analyze the diversity of works of art in their respective economic, political and social contexts, in order to evaluate their technical aspects.

  • Understand the phenomena related to Mexican art, from its beginnings to the present day.

  • Intervene, from a theoretical and practical standpoint, with proposals and projects for the conservation and diffusion of art and culture.

  • Implement the use of new information technologies and communications.

  • Understand the different styles, trends, movements and schools that have influenced art history.

  • Design the pertinent methodological formula to research and understand a phase or specific mechanism of an artistic production of a particular genre.

GRADUATE PROFILE

At the end of your studies, having advanced your education and increased your abilities, you will also have:

  • Ability to discern, in a thoughtful manner, different artistic and cultural expressions, both national and international.

  • Knowledge and command of the principles, guidelines and discourse of art history in all its theoretical and historical aspects, as well as of different problems related to a curator’s practice, depending on your historical or present-day approach.

  • Understanding of the phenomena relative to Mexican art, from its inception until the present.

  • Ability to carry out research and intervention work, based on theory and practice, through art conservation and diffusion proposals and projects.

  • Ease in adapting new information and communication technologies, using them in your profession as they relate to art and culture.

  • A real and solid notion of the problems presented by different styles, trends, movements and schools that conform until now the development of art history.
