As a graduate from the Bachelor of Music you will have the technique, knowledge, and experience to identify and examine works and etudes of different musical periods and styles, using a wide array of methodologies. You will also develop individual curiosity and self-discipline to promote music as a vital part of a healthy and productive society, combining ethical and professional values.

Once you have finished your study program, you will have a bachelor´s degree in addition to a licenciatura degree. Therefore, your studies will be recognized worldwide.

At the Licenciatura in Music our goals are to:

  • Train you in musical execution, analysis, direction, and composition.
  • Provide you with the tools to write, listen, and analyze music, preparing you for your professional life.
  • Cultivate your respect for discipline, interaction with other artists, and appreciation of different cultural environment and methods.
  • Prepare you for graduate studies in direction, production, musical creation, musicology, and cultural management.
  • Foster familiarity with the job market, through practices that include individual and group presentations and participation in ensembles, opera, musicals, and collaborations with dance and theater.
  • Likes to listen to, analyze, and learn different types of music.
  • Has a good ear for rhythm and melody.
  • Willing to work for the greater good and to be successful.
  • Determined to achieve goals through learning.
  • Able to identify sounds and harmonic relations through auditory techniques and theoretical models that support different types of musical practices, for individual and group presentation, repertoire analysis, and work creation.
  • Capable of analyzing music – using technical, harmonic, historic, and stylistic methods – to coherently and consistently play music according to the repertoire´s cultural milieu and presentation venue.
  • Skillful in analyzing sounds and harmonic progressions through theoretical models and auditory techniques to be able to harmonize melodies, take musical dictation, and read music at first sight.
  • Experienced in the application of reading, hearing, and execution techniques through music intonation to reproduce melodies in choirs, opera, and musical theater.
  • Able to discern harmonic and formal structures using tonal, modal, and post-tonal theories to do counterpoint, polyphony writing, composition, and musical arrangements.
  • Proficient in comparing points of view of other members of a musical ensemble, proposing interpretation methods to recommend his/her own stylistic and structural interpretation of a given repertoire.
