Train dental surgeons, capable of identifying, describing and diagnosing oral diseases, through the use of innovative procedures, techniques and equipment to treat and rehabilitate the oral cavity and promote the promotion and prevention of oral health of the population.

The specific objectives of the Degree in Dental Surgeon are best posed by addressing it through the different areas of study in which the curriculum is divided:



Medicine
  • Identify the fundamentals in medical practice, where the techniques, exploratory procedures, interview, clinical history, clinical analysis and therapeutic plan are the key to the professional performance of the Dental.
  • Interpret the patient's language and translate it into dental terminology.
  • Correlate the pathology, diagnosis and aspects of the different disciplines.
  • Describe the pillars of medicine and consider them as important since many medical specialties have had their growth in diagnosis and / or treatment.
  • Acquire and develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to prevent, diagnose, establish therapeutic measures and indicate those of rehabilitation in the most frequent diseases dealt with in dental medicine.
  • To identify the conceptions and principles related to the dental anatomy as well as the study of its structure, this for dental occlusion.


Diagnosis
  • Identify the location, extent and degree of activity of dental and periodontal pathology, as well as the possible repercussions on the patient's health, function and aesthetics.
  • Identify and diagnose mucosal pathology, including oral cancer as well as identify the conditions that will require treatment.
  • Have knowledge in the diagnosis of maxillofacial pathology and provide a treatment considering other disciplines, in order to improve the patient's oral health.
  • Use dental materials for professional practice giving the graduate the ability to manipulate these materials.


Integral rehabilitation
  • Identify the importance of Rehabilitation in the oral cavity, knowing everything related to temporomandibular occlusion and joint, as well as the study of the radiographs, analysis of the models to give a relevant and effective treatment.
  • Consider the functions and usefulness of the materials used in oral rehabilitation.
  • To evaluate the functionality of occlusion in oral rehabilitation, endodontics, periodontics and geriatric rehabilitation to provide adequate oral esthetics.
  • To involve critical thinking in the teaching-learning process based on the resolution of problems, through the correlation of clinical cases, with a basis in the new trends in oral rehabilitation.
  • To relate the pathology, diagnosis and therapeutic aspects in dentistry, understanding this discipline as an integrator of knowledge.


Preventive basic
  • Identify the importance of prevention in order to apply preventive measures in the oral cavity for use in clinics with patients.
  • To describe the etiology and clinical characteristics, to apply them as preventive methods and thus to improve the dental quality of the patients.


Exodontia and surgery
  • Interpreting laboratory exams, radiology, dental imaging, etc., to establish a correct diagnosis for patients.
  • To evaluate and to use the dental instruments for use in the extraction and oral surgery.
  • Describe the procedures in cases where surgical procedures are required in the oral cavity, in order to attend the patient.
  • Use procedural techniques to perform implants in patients who present aesthetic difficulties in the oral cavity.


Prosthesis
  • Describe the methodological concepts that are used for prosthesis implants in the oral cavity.
  • Use procedural techniques to perform implants in patients who present aesthetic difficulties in the oral cavity.
  • Identify the hygiene standards that should be used to perform insertion of oral prostheses.
  • Relate the aspects of teeth, considering the relationship between the jaws and vertical dimensions of the mouth, to design prostheses that improve the aesthetics of the oral cavity of the patient.


Pediatric dentistry
  • To determine the process of growth and development of infants, as well as determine their physiological variants, to provide a correct treatment and diagnose oral pathologies.
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of diseases in children to provide a relevant treatment with respect to the oral cavity.
  • Associate the principles of ethics in dentistry, applying them to the exercise of the attention of infants in all its aspects.


Medical Epidemiology
  • Respect the human rights, autonomy and dignity of the people to provide a treatment that is in accordance with the difficulties of oral health.
  • To evaluate the importance of epidemiology and public health especially of oral health at national and international level from the multidisciplinary aspects, making use of the identification of pathologies and problems of oral health of people.
  • Consider the importance of Family and community medicine in the development of oral care .
  • Implement skills for the application of statistical methods as well as the interpretation of the same in such a way that programs are designed to address oral conditions.
  • Identify the characteristics of the organization of Oral health services at different levels and programs in order to participate and propose programs.
  • Apply the knowledge acquired linking medicine with the legislation in question of oral health to substantiate the professional work.


Humanistic
  • Identify humanistic approaches in the Oral medicine as well as its complications in the development of its different stages in order to apply timely and feasible treatment.
  • Consider human life from its beginnings to its development to evaluate professional development based on the treatments provided .
  • Integrate cultural factors And social aspects that present an extensive dimension in the determination of the phenomena related to oral health .
  • Inferring in the technological advances mainly for the treatment of the oral cavity with the purpose of qualifying and using the most avant-garde that guarantee the professional practice.
  • Provide oral care programs to the most vulnerable communities considering their needs and practicing human values.
The candidate to enter the program of the degree in Dental Surgeon requires having completed the average upper level or its equivalent preferably in the areas of Health Sciences or biological and possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes:

Knowledge
  • In order to enter, the applicant must pass an examination of general knowledge of the area of study, as well as, possess knowledge about the fundamentals of natural, exact and social sciences.


Abilities
  • Skills in teamwork and inter and multidisciplinary work, taste for feedback, tolerance for frustration.
  • Observer and good decision-making and self-criticism.
  • Ability to work in teams and in a multidisciplinary way.
  • Interest in the health of the population.

The egress profile contemplates and integrates the theoretical, methodological, practical and technical foundations of the degree in Dental Surgeon, developed during the different subjects of the studies, which describes what the graduate will be able to carry out during his professional practice.

Knowledge
  • Integrate fundamentals, theoretical, methodological, practical and technical knowledge about dentistry, through the analysis of the subjects of this career, to identify and apply the operational actions to be followed during dental clinical work.
  • To relate diseases and dental pathologies, through the analysis of case studies, to contribute to the orientation and timely intervention.
  • Identify actions to be taken in the care of oral diseases, through the application of general prevention measures, to reduce oral diseases in society.
  • To gather information that allows him to formulate diagnoses based on the results obtained, through multidisciplinary work, to decide the plan to follow in the rehabilitation.
  • Distinguish the needs to proceed in oral interventions in order to attend to the population and to be able to prevent and rehabilitate the society in order to promote oral health.
  • To identify the symptomatology of a disease based on an orderly and methodological clinical analysis to design treatments based on the identification of the patient's pathologies.


Skills and abilities
  • Design individualized treatments, through the diagnosis of pathology to consider the patient's need.
  • To use the different techniques and procedures to obtain a clinical history that allows an optimal diagnosis, through the use of different ways of obtaining the information (clinical history, laboratory tests, x-rays, plaques) which provide us with accurate data, to create an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Diagnose patients based on their needs by analyzing their functionality and aesthetics to provide the patient a dignified treatment and return the functionality in the oral cavity.
  • To analyze the needs of the oral health of each patient, through the interpretation of the demographic study with the purpose of proposing an effective diagnosis.
  • Implement necessary and timely prevention, promotion and rehabilitation measures for disease control, through the implementation of scientific research.
  • Develop creatively the solution of dental complications through the coordination of inter and multidisciplinary teams to raise and develop research projects.
  • Evaluate the best treatment options appropriate to the individual needs of each patient, through the evaluation of clinical analyzes of the patient in order to be objective, valid and feasible.

  • Create a commitment towards permanent updating, through the valuation of new technological and research advances, to specialize in the disciplines and be more competitive with the requirements of society.
  • Support scientific processes and apply them properly in the care of their patients, by updating their profession to propose new procedural alternatives.
