MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
A year ago, on April 1, 2008, we defined the mission of our institution as follows:
“To educate professionals who are well informed, critical, creative, innovative, and highly capable technically but, above all, aware of their social responsibility to achieve a balanced distribution of the benefits provided by globalization.”
In order to fulfill this mission, as I began my tenure as President of Universidad de las Americas Puebla, I indicated that I needed help from the university community—students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents—to create a space where freedom of expression, access to all currents of thought, administrative efficiency, and respect for the rights of people would form the core of our students’ education. I closed by saying that I would also require their help to meet the challenge of a world where an ever increasing number of institutions compete locally, nationally, and internationally. A year later this Annual Report 2008-2009 affirms that our mission is on its way to completion.
For this reason, I begin by thanking everyone in the university community for their effort and dedication on behalf of our institution for the past 12 months. The results we have achieved would have been impossible if not for common effort of everyone in the UDLAP community.
